Held in Barcelona, this workshop is a concentrated, architecture-first immersion designed for photographers who want to move beyond surface beauty and begin understanding how buildings communicate meaning.
Barcelona is one of Europe’s most visually layered cities. Gothic, medieval, Modernisme, and contemporary architecture coexist not as isolated styles, but as a continuous visual conversation across streets, plazas, and civic spaces. This workshop uses that continuity to teach photographers how architecture expresses culture, time, intention, and restraint through form.
This is not a sightseeing workshop. We work deliberately and deeply, revisiting areas, slowing the pace, and examining how architectural decisions reveal themselves through light, proportion, rhythm, and spatial order.

Gaudí’s organic Modernisme and its relationship to structure and nature
Gothic and medieval architecture as expressions of permanence and restraint
Civic and market spaces as functional, human-scaled design
Contemporary glass and steel as contrast, interruption, and dialogue

When an image is visually resolved — and when it is not
Instructional Approach
Joe does not shoot alongside participants. His role is to teach, observe, guide, and critique. Instruction is continuous and personal, focused on helping each photographer refine judgment rather than accumulate images.
